LYF Info for current 4th graders and 5th graders.

Hello friends! Here’s some info about LYF related things for parents of students currently in 4th and 5th grade.

One Awesome Celebration (for Laurel’s 4th and 5th graders)

In case you don't know, I'm Trey Clark, youth minister at Laurel. If you're receiving this email it is because you are the parent of a student who is currently in 4th or 5th grade. I want to make sure everyone is aware of the upcoming annual "One Awesome Celebration" (formerly 'One Awesome Night') event that our youth group is planning for the 4th and 5th graders in Laurel's kids ministry.

One Awesome Celebration will be Sunday night 4/16 from 5pm-8pm. One Awesome Celebration is designed to give our 4th and 5th graders a taste of what it's like to be in the youth group. We also make a special effort to make sure they are very warmly welcomed and know how much we look forward to having them be a part of our group. We'll spend some time in worship, hear from some of our current students about what they love about the youth group, have dinner together, and play some of our favorite games. Parents are also welcome to stay and hangout for the duration of the evening. We look forward to seeing you all there.

The rest of this email will only apply to the parents of students currently in 5th grade.

LYF 101

LYF 101 is an event that serves as an "orientation" for rising 6th graders and parents. We now promote rising 6th graders into the youth group at the beginning of the summer. We think this will help new 6th graders "plug-in" to the ministry more quickly. With all this being the case, students currently in 5th grade will be promoted to the youth group on Wednesday 5/24 at the LYF Summer Kickoff Party. Click here for the LYF Summer Calendar so you all can save some of these dates.

Before the official promotion we wanted to have a dinner for you all and your families on Sunday 5/21. The plan is for us to all have dinner together. Once we're done with dinner, the rising 6th grade students will play some games with our LYF interns, and I'll meet with you all and go over everything you need to know about LYF. If you've never been to a LYF 101, I'd encourage you to be here, even if you have other students currently in the youth group.

Middle School Camp

Our rising 6th graders are also eligible to come to camp with us this summer. We take our middle schoolers to Smoky Mountain Christian Camp which is just up the mountain from Tellico Plains. The dates are 6/11-16, and the cost is $235. There is a discount for first time campers, and we have scholarships available as well. For more info visit https://www.smccamp.com/. The deadline to register is two weeks before the start of camp.

We will take a bus/van up to and from camp together, so you won't need to worry about transportation.

Let me know if you have any questions about anything discussed in this email or about LYF in general. I'm very much looking forward to everything we've got coming up.
