LYF Update

Recap

Hey everyone! Here’s a brief recap of what’s been going on with LYF before getting into everything we’ve got coming up.

Winterfest: The most important thing to report from Winterfest is we had four students decide to be baptized into Christ! Wade White and Jacey Thomas were baptized upon arriving at home, and two more students are in the process of studying and having conversations with family about baptism. We’d appreciate prayer over those conversations. I want to take this opportunity to remind you all that if any students are interested in baptism I would be overjoyed to take part in any studies/conversations or answer any questions they may have.

The theme for Winterfest was “The Hour Has Come,” and we spent the weekend learning about John 17 and the last things Jesus said before going to the cross. Students worshipped passionately, grew closer to one another, and were challenged to show the love of Christ upon returning home.

4 for 30: Our first 4 for 30 Wednesday was February 8th, and it was a great success. We saw a handful of students we hadn’t seen on a Wednesday in a while, and thats what 4 for 30 is all about….being the one Wednesday a month where everyone can attend.

For the service portion of 4 for 30 we spent time writing notes of encouragement to Laurel members that have since been mailed out (thanks Kimberlin). Our next 4 for 30 will be March 8.

(New) Christian Discipleship Plan: I’ve been in the process of converting the material from the Spiritual Disciplines Retreat into a resource to equip new Christians with structure and advice for practicing spiritual disciplines with their families and with a mentor. Spiritual disciplines are simply practices that help us grow in our faith and become more like Jesus. Over the course of a year new Christians will practice a new spiritual discipline each month until they have learned about and practiced all 12 classic spiritual disciplines from Richard Foster’s “Celebration of Discipline….” I should make sure and add that these disciplines are all found throughout scripture as well….New Christians will be paired with a mentor that will be practicing these disciplines along side them. JJ Sackie has started this process with me, and Jacey and Wade will be starting soon.

This is an awesome opportunity for any student who wants to grow in their faith. If any student is interested in being paired with a mentor that will come along side them as they grow in their faith, let me know! This plan has been designed with new Christians in mind, but will be great for anyone looking to begin practicing spiritual disciplines and grow in their faith.
